A fitting name for a book

Updated: Dec 3, 2019

Well, here it is. The first blog post on my shiny new website. I’d been meaning to create a new site for myself for quite a while, putting all of my work in one place, and now it’s done. I hope you like the look and feel of it—I’ve put enough bloody work into it.

As you may or may not now, I have a book of short stories that’s due to be released on Amazon in April. This, too, has been a long time in the making. Let me tell you, it feels amazing to have all of the stories checked, edited, uploaded, polished and dusted, because it’s been a mighty battle to get it all put together. This book‘s proven itself to be one tough cookie.

The featured stories in this book have been rewritten and edited many times over the course of about four years, which is normal for a lot of writers I suppose, but the whole process has been heightened and intensified by my OCD and perfectionism.

Writing is a strange experience for me.

I love writing first and second drafts, but I absolutely despise the subsequent edits that always follow. You could say that writing stories begins as a form of therapy, and ends as a form of torture.

And then there was the massive palaver of uploading the completed manuscript and cover to Amazon. I won’t go into all of the frustrating details but let’s just say that it was a fucking nightmare, hence the title of this blog post. My book has a very fitting name (The Edge of Insanity), because it certainly drove me to the edge of insanity.

But you know what? It was all worth it, because now I’ve got a beautiful (beautiful for lovers of the creepy and macabre, that is) book of short stories that I, as well as a certain niche of readers, will adore.

I’ve also included some drawings in this book, which was a kind of last minute decision. I’m very glad I did this, too, because it’s added another layer of depth to it, and intensified the stories somewhat.

The official release date for ‘The Edge of Insanity’ is the 16th of April, 2020. You can pre-order the Kindle version right now on Amazon, but you’ll have to wait until the release date for the paperback.

Make sure you get yourself a copy either way, because it really is something special.

Also, in case you haven't seen it, take a look at the promo video that I've made below.

That’s all for now.

James
